If you'd like to hike the Appalachian Trail, Sam's Gap is just 7 miles away by vehicle. Discover the Sam's Gap to Big Bald hike. Generally considered a moderately challenging route, it takes an average of 7 h 17 min to complete. This is a popular trail for backpacking, birding, and hiking.

Dogs are allowed on the trail but must be leashed. A well-behaved dog may be permitted by the owner, provided the dog is crated when left alone. We also require that dogs not be allowed on all beds and furniture nor scratching flooring and crated when left alone. Provided towels and linens are NOT for pet use. Please be a responsible pet owner. Pet owners who do not follow the rules are subject to additional cleaning fees. Respecting these guidelines enables us to continue to offer a home for pets and their families. A non-refundable pet fee of $75 is required prior to arrival. Prior approval is required to bring more than one dog and an additional pet fee will be required to be paid. We will request the additional monies after the reservation is confirmed. IF ANY PET IS BROUGHT TO THE PREMISES WITHOUT RECEIVING PRIOR APPROVAL AND/OR THE $75 PER PET FEE BEING PAID, YOU WILL BE CHARGED A $500 PET PENALTY FOR EACH UNAUTHORIZED PET AND SUBJECT TO BEING ASKED TO LEAVE IMMEDIATELY!

We STRONGLY recommend our guests come prepared for inclement weather. Often mountain roads can become impassable from heavy snowfall. We encourage our guests to be prepared with extra supplies such as food/beverages etc. We do recommend 4WD or AWD for most properties. Do not attempt to maneuver around mountain roads if you are not familiar with how to operate a vehicle in the snow or a vehicle with tire chains in the snow. Please observe local weather advisement guidelines.
